Fourth of July Festivities Return to Palmetto

Posted on June 7, 2021 at 8:24 AM by Penny Johnston

Palmetto, Florida celebrates America’s Independence on Sunday, July 4th with great music in Sutton Park, followed by fireworks over the Manatee River. The Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) hosts its annual “Fourth Festival” with award winning country music singer Wynonna Judd and The Big Noise. The July 4th celebration begins at approximately 5:00 p.m. in historic Sutton Park on Old Main Street in Downtown Palmetto (1036 6th Street West).

DJ James Thomas will start the evening providing pre-recorded music.  The opening act later in the evening is His Country, a talented local husband and wife duo, Duane and Dee Kauffman. The Palmetto VFW will present the Colors, and US Army Veteran Gary Masengale will sing the National Anthem at about 7:00 p.m.

American country singer Wynonna Judd has had a long and successful singing career, starting as a duo act alongside her mother Naomi Judd, then as a solo artist and now she is performing with her band as Wynonna & The Big Noise.  She has had a number of chart topping hits including “She is His Only Need”, “No One Else on Earth”, and “Grandpa (Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days)”.  Wynonna & The Big Noise is set to perform around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night. Everyone can stay in their seats or walk down to the Manatee River for the fireworks extravaganza starting when the music ends, around 9:30 p.m.

“The Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency sponsors the July 4th celebration to promote Palmetto’s downtown business district, our beautiful parks and waterfront,” says Palmetto Mayor Shirley Groover Bryant. “We want everyone to come, have a great time and learn a little more about Palmetto.”
